Holston Earns Independent Player of the Week Honors For The Third Time In Four Weeks

OREM, Utah - For the third time in four weeks, Chicago State’s David Holston has been named the Independent Player of the Week for his performance in last week’s games.
Holston averaged 24.3 points, 4.6 assist and 4.0 steals in three games last week for the Cougars.
In a loss against the Cleveland State, he finished with a game-high 19 points, four rebounds, five assist and five steals. Against Drake in the Drake Regency Classic, he scored 19 points, hit 5-of-11 from behind the arc, dished out four assists and had four steals as CSU lost to the Bulldogs.
In the second day of the Drake Regency Classic Holston led the Chicago State to victory over Jackson State, scoring a game-high 32 points, while connecting on 8-of-14 from three-point range, he also dished out a game-high five assist, and three steals. For his efforts, Holston was also named to the Drake Regency Classic All-Tournament team
“Thus-far this season, David is proving that he is one of the best guards in the country”, said head coach Benjy Taylor. “He has done this against top competition, and we look for him to continue his strong play”.
For the season Holston leads the nation in points scored (288), 9th nationally in ppg (24.0), leads the nation in three-point field goals made (65), while shooting 49% (65-133) from three-point range.
Holston is also 2nd in the nation in free-throw percentage (93.0) hitting 53-of-57 from the stripe, and 2nd nationally in total steals with 33.
The Independent Player of the Week is nominated and voted upon weekly by the sports information departments of each of the 10 NCAA independent basketball schools.
Holston and the Cougars return to action on Saturday, Dec. 15, when they visit the Valparaiso Crusaders. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. |
