Chicago State Women Fall to #16 DePaul, 91-59

CHICAGO, Ill. – Junior guard Jasmin Dixon finished with a double-double, scoring 20 points while pulling down  rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Chicago State fell to Big East Conference foe, #16 DePaul 91-59 on Wednesday afternoon in the McGrath Arena.

The Cougars have lost two straight and drop to 4-4 on the season. DePaul remains unbeaten and improves to 8-0.  

Junior point guard Zondranika Williams finished with 11 points and sophomore Laureen Pierson chipped in with nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

Allie Quigley led three Blue Demons in double-figures scoring a game-high 23 points in only 18 minutes. Deirdre Naughton chipped in with 16 points and Erin Carney had 12 points and five rebounds off the bench.

CSU shot 36.4 percent from the floor, hitting only 20-of-55 shots, compared to DePauls 47.5 percent connecting on 38-of-80 shots. The Blue Demons also outscored Chicago State 46-26 in the paint.

The first-half was all DePaul as they came out the gate smoking, taking a 19-6 lead in the first six minutes of the game, led by 12 early points from Allie Quigley.  The Blue Demons extended their lead to 31-12 with 7:21 remaining in the half in large part by forcing 11 Chicago State turnovers. DePaul extended their lead to 29 points and went into the locker room with a 50-21 lead.

Chicago State went on a 9-5 run to start the second-half capped by a lay-up from Jasmin Dixon with 16:56 remaining closing the gap to 56-30. The Blue Demons responded with a 25-5 run in the next five minutes to take a 71-35 lead. The Cougars fought hard and outscored the Blue Demons 23-21 the rest of the way, before falling 91-59.  

Chicago State will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 17, when they face the   Saluki’s of Southern Illinois at the SIU Arena in Carbondale. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m.
