This is to inform the University Community that effective Friday, November 22nd, at 10.00 pm, the University ID (UID) will be the only approved mechanism to access any of our systems, applications and business processes across campus. For example, to access CSU Xpress and Web Time Entry UID will be required instead of SSN.
This is another step to ensure compliance with the Identity Protection ACT to limit access to and prevent unauthorized disclosure of social security numbers of our faculty, staff and students. This further ensures that only employees who are required to use information will have access to it.
Your UID number is the first 9-digits on your University ID card. If you do not have your UID numbers, staff must contact HR, students must contact Registrar and prospects must contact Financial Aid. Alternatively, you can login into Cougar Connect (https://cougarconnect.csu.edu) using your email address/password and access CSU Xpress.
The UID process was implemented as part of the University Social Security Number Policy to ensure privacy, and proper use of the Social Security Number. At the initial implementation, all faculty, staff and students were assigned a UID. Currently all person records in our ERP system have been assigned a UID number. This process is applicable to any new records in future as well. ITD has trained all staff members entering new records on creating the UID numbers for new entries for employees, students, applicants and prospect records.
A major advantage is the ability to retrieve most of the information in the BANNER ERP system using the UID instead of SSN.
