Located in the Cordell Reed Student Union, room 150, the African American Male Achievement Center (AAMAC) helps young African American males become eligible for postsecondary options by making available those services that will offer academic and social support once enrolled. The primary purpose of the Center is to collaborate with undergraduate students in becoming efficient, independent learners. Program components are designed to improve the persistence rate of African American males at the University by providing an environment that emphasizes positive male development through shared experiences.

A major thrust of the African American Male Achievement Center is to ensure that young males understand and learn to value the long-term impact of staying in school as well as developing a positive understanding of social roles and expectations.

In 2008, Chicago State University received a 2-year grant under the U.S. Department of Education: Predominantly Black Institutions Program (PBI) to enhance the educational outcomes of African American males.  This initiative included development of the African American Male Achievement Center. For more information about the PBI Project, click here.
