Assessment is an on-going process to provide information about student achievement, performance and program effectiveness. The primary purpose of academic assessment is to improve student learning and development. The assessment of student learning offers us an excellent opportunity for gathering, interpreting, and using information that will result in educational improvement. Assessment is also necessary to make sound decisions about students and programs, and is required by accrediting bodies. Assessment and instruction are closely linked; therefore, assessment methods must closely target instructional objectives in order for students to showcase their achievements. The assessment process is ongoing and flows from the mission of Chicago State University, the College of Arts & Sciences and the Department of Psychology.
