Clinical Mental Health Graduate Program
Students in the Clinical Mental Health program are prepared for careers in community agencies such as mental health clinics, substance abuse facilities, and/or to work as developmental interventionalists and consultants in a wide variety of educational and non-educational settings.

Students in the Clinical Mental Health track will also be given strong preparation in clinical intervention, with specific focus on addressing the needs of urban youth and their families.

Degree Requirements

  • Completion of at least 54 credit hours at the graduate level with grades averaging B or better.
  • Must not earn more than two C’s and must earn a B or better in all three clinical courses.
  • Passing score on the comprehensive examinations.
    Completion of all degree requirements within six years.

Admission Requirements

  • Submission of an application, official transcript (s) and two references forms (one from either a college instructor or supervisor at work) must be received by the CSU School of Graduate and Professional Studies in the New Academic Library, Room 239 by March 1st.
  • Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) for the last 60 semester hours of course work to be fully admitted to the program (or 2.75 through 2.99 may qualify for conditional status).
  • Applicants who satisfy the above criteria must successfully complete a written essay and interview by the department.
  • Completion of six hours of prerequisite courses, which must include:
    A course in developmental psychology (i.e. Child Psychology, Lifespan Development) and psychological statistics with a grade of C or better in at least one course and B or better in the remaining course.
  • Due to limited class size, we are unable to accept all qualified applicants into the program.
