Faculty in Library Information and Media Studies

The department of Library, Information, and Media Studies at Chicago State University invites potential colleagues to apply for a full-time tenure-track position within our growing program. Appointment may be made at the assistant or associate professor rank depending on your qualifications. Position starts Spring 2010.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
As a faculty member at Chicago State, you will be expected to teach courses in library and information science, and engage in research and scholarly activities. In addition to teaching one or more core courses, you will participate in expanding the scope of our program in one or more of the following areas: information organization including cataloging and metadata, digital libraries and preservation of cultural heritage materials, youth and children's services, urban librarianship and community informatics, management, and research methods. Our faculty members teach traditional face-to-face classes, online courses, and at cohort sites as needed. In addition, our faculty is actively engaged with our students and the university through student advising and participation in appropriate departmental, school, university and community service activities. As we are a growing program, our faculty has the opportunity to collaborate within the department and school in developing new courses and programs.

Requirements:
Candidates for this position are required to have
1) a doctoral degree in library and information science or an MLS and a doctoral degree in a closely related area;
2) at least one year of experience teaching at the graduate level;
3) evidence of relevant research, including scholarly publications in LIS.

Candidates with prior experience as a practitioner in an academic, public, or special library are especially encouraged to apply. Appointment at the Associate Professor rank requires current, practical experience with curriculum development, an established record of research and publications, as well as evidence of teaching excellence.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Starting Date: Spring 2010
