Future Research Study Interests

 

Phase II: HIV Transmission in Illinois Prisons

  • A 3-year prospective study will be conducted to assess HIV incidence in prison.
  • Participants will be followed for two years in prisons and one year after they are released from prison.
  • Participants will be interviewed and tested for HIV at baseline and at six month intervals thereafter.
  • The study will aim to estimate HIV incidence in prison.
 

HIV Risk Assessment of Partners of Incarcerated Individuals

  • Assess the HIV risk and risk reduction needs of partners of incarcerated individuals.
  • This will be assesses through surveys, focus group discussions and in-depth interviews.
  • Our ultimate goal is to develop risk reduction interventions for this target group.
 

Health Behavior Survey of Jail Detainees

  • Survey of health behaviors of jail detainees in collaboration with Cook County Jail.
  • Detainees in the general population who agree to be tested for HIV and volunteer to participate in the survey.
  • HIV testing and counseling staff will interview detainees about various health behaviors including risk behaviors.
