The HIV/AIDS Van

In 2005, a mobile van was purchased by the Institute. The van is used primarily to disseminate educational materials, including materials on HIV/AIDS research. The van also provides a venue for HIV testing using the OraQuick. In addition, testing for other sexually transmitted diseases is provided. The testing has been made possible through collaboration with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), Chicago Black Gay Men’s Coalition, and other community based organizations.

HIV and STD prevention education materials have been disseminated within the Chicago metropolitan area through the use of this van. In about two years of operations, more than 5,000 individuals within CSU campus and surrounding communities have been recipients of the services provides through the van.
