Program Goals
The Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in Bilingual Elementary Education at Chicago State University is an innovative curriculum that is carefully aligned to the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards and balances theory, content structures and best practices in teaching in bilingual education programs. Candidates develop knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to meet the needs of diverse learners including second language learners. The program is designed to prepare individuals for:
- Teaching positions in elementary schools (kindergarten – 9th grade)
- Teaching positions in bilingual and ELL programs (kindergarten – 9th grade)
Candidate Outcomes
Successful completion of this degree program is designed to afford the following candidate outcomes:
- Obtain an Initial Type 03 (K-9) Illinois Elementary Certificate;
- Obtain a Type 29 (K-12) Illinois Transitional Bilingual Certificate in Spanish;
- Obtain state of Illinois Bilingual and ESL approvals for grades K-9;
- and obtain a middle grade (6-8) endorsement in language arts.
