School Library Media endorsement  (24 credit hour program)

Teachers who are already certified may apply for admission to the non-degree School Library Media endorsement program. Completion of the School Library Media endorsement will qualify certified teachers for the State of Illinois Standard Library Information Specialist Certificate (K-12, Type 10).  The School Library Media endorsement meets the standards of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Requirements

  • Admission to the College of Education.
  • Submission of a passing score report on the Illinois Certification test of Basic Skills passed anytime since 1987.

Survey of Technology for Libraries LIMS 5050 (CM 400)
Cataloging and Classification LIMS 5020 (LIB 402)
Collection, Development, and Usage of Reference Materials LIMS 5190 (LIB 419)
Literature and Related Media for Children and Young Adults LIMS 5240 (LIB 424)
Administration of Media Centers LIMS 5300 (LIB 430)
Management and Organization of Libraries LIMS 5280 (LIB 428)

 

1 elective in Library Science and 1 elective in Media Studies – MS 5100 (Advanced Media Production) is recommended

Note: Students who do not already have a middle school endorsement must complete two additional courses: (ELCF 4440 Philosophy, Curriculum, and Instructional Methods for the Middle School and PSYC 4210 Adolescent Psychology) if they plan on working in a building that has students in grades 5-8.
