Academic Programs

Program Options

The College of Business offers six program options in three departments, each leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in either Business and Administration or Hospitality Management. Students accepted into the College of Business can expect to prepare for careers leading to the following:

1. Accounting -Students are prepared for careers in public, private or not-for-profit accounting. Areas covered include financial, managerial and not-for-profit auditing, taxation and business law.

2. Finance- Students prepare for corporate financial management, capital markets, securities and portfolio management for positions in banks, insurance companies, brokerages and other financial institutions.

3. Information Systems - Students prepare for careers using quantitative information, electronic data processing and operations to make business decisions regarding computer systems.

4. Management - Students learn administration and human resource or personnel management, labor relations, and theories of organizations for positions in industry, retail, corporations and government.

5. Marketing - Students learn advertising, consumer behavior, distribution systems and research techniques for positions in sales, telemarketing, buying, supervision and general management

Minors in the College of Business

Three out of every four jobs requires some skill related to a business skill. Therefore, to provide a service for students who are not business majors, the College has developed two minors for non-business majors. To be admitted into a Business Minor Program, a student will submit to the College of Business Office of Academic Advising (BHS 435) a Program Application Form. Each applicant must (1) successfully complete proficiency exams in Reading, Math and English; (2) complete 24 hours of college or university level work, including: MATH 162, ENG 128, and either ECON 101 or ECON 102 (business administration minors take ENG 279; and (3) earn at least a 2.5 or better GPA on all college work.

Students must pass each of the required courses with a "C" or better.

Comparable courses for the prerequisites may be acceptable and some substitutions for MGMT 249 may be allowed with consent from the College of Business.
